Indian Creek
March, 2006
Indian Creek is another one of those places that we've wanted to visit for some time, but took us a while to get around to actually doing. The creek is renowned for its parallel cracks in wingate sandstone, which is the hardest sandstone you can find in the desert.
The biggest problem with climbing at the Creek (other than the burliness that it takes to get up the climbs) is wrangling up enough cams to protect the long continuous cracks. We'd borrowed cams from just about everyone we know and still had to be quite choosey about the routes we climbed.
Fortunately we visited the creek on a Monday, and it was still early in the season, so we were able to explore the area and get our bearings without much pressure from other climbers. In all we only did three climbs, but they definitely wet our appetite--we'll be back for more later!
